Hey, look! It's fantastic new uniqueness for the Russia DA!

If anyone is researching the Pakistan/Musharraf credibility disadvantage to terrorism cases, here's a great new article on that from the upcoming issue of The Nation. The Economist chimes in, too. Protests are already starting.

And here's a great article that says "the United Nations is uniquely suited" to solve terrorism. And that, my friends, is true.

If you don't have the (free) registration required for the New York Times on the web, for god's sake get it now. Here's a brand-spanking new generic Bipartisanship disad link article. Uniqueness is in there too. You're welcome.

Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair have a great journal called CounterPunch. Their latest issue at www.counterpunch.org has an interview with Barbara Lee, the only sane person in Congress.

Tariq Ali has a great new article that points out how fragile the Pakistani political situation is right now, and how US action could destabilize it. The New York Times (of all places!) agrees with Tariq (more or less) in this article and this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/09/17/international/17PAK.html -- which points out the "wrenching situation" Gen. Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's dicatator, is in: support the U.S. and enrage the very vocal pro-Taliban minority in his Islamic country, or say no to the US, and risk continuation of sanctions -- or worse -- from the Americans.

Peace. Now.

Don't the terrorist attacks on America mean we should boost the military budget? Actually, Jonathan Schell says, disarm is important more now than ever. William Pfaff convincingly argues that plans for war play into the hands of terrorists. True: this type of "asymmetric warfare" can't be deterred by the traditional means of the big stick -- only by the carefully crafted strategy of diplomacy and peacemaking.

It seems offensive to even consider the debate implications of the terrorist attacks. When you're ready to do so, though, this NYT editorial makes some cogent and relevant points.

The tragedy back east is being followed closely by myself and others here. Casey created a discussion area.

Disarm (and more) again! The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation's newsletter,
The Sunflower,
has a new issue that is excellent. It contains an article about abrogation of treaties that feeds the article I blooged earlier about Congress having a role checking the executive branch's foreign policy miscues.

The season approaches! Even though I was stricken with the flu and unable to attend the Washington Coaches' meeting Saturday. More links ...

The Women's Debate Institute put out a Bush credibility disad with an energy policy scenario. This article is a brand new NYT editorial for that scenario.

The piping-hot Budget/Economy DA scenario continues to percolate. Now Dubya is thinking about ANOTHER tax cut. Hey, I just cut off one finger, and it hurt -- maybe the way to stop the pain is to cut ANOTHER finger off. William Safire is full of shit, but the economy cards in this article are pretty good. Hey, guess what? Bush's tax cut was justified by lies from the beginning. I'm shocked, shocked, to find gambling going on at Rick's American Cafe. "Sooner or later the government will have to cancel or revamp some of the remaining components of President Bush's tax-cut package" says this Washington Post report.

I just finished an advanced LD book for West Coast Publishing. You should rush out and buy it, of course.

Here's an Australian paper's take on the biological warfare deal I posted yesterday. I love the Sydney Morning Herald, or the "SMH," as Mitch Benson would say.

Machines are going to take over the world! Don't worry, Peter, it's A.I., not nano. I hope this doesn't mean that "I see dead people" kid is going to rule Earth.

For your Bush credibility disad: his popularity is sinking like a stone in hog slop. All may be right with the world after all.

If not sure if environmentally-friendly bombs is topical or not, but damn that would be a cool case.

This just in: The U.S. engages in germ warfare research that violates the BWC. These two recent NYT articles prove it. An affirmative case? Possibly. If nothing else, it shows you the real reason the U.S. nixed the BWC enforcement protocol earlier this year.

At this time of year, you've got to have two things in mind: researching the Budget Disadvantage and preparing for the inevitable Mid-term elections disadvantage. The cards for the former are out there, the cards for the latter will be soon. Keep an eye out.
